Traveling Food Woes

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

This last trip we took was a little tough on our daily eating habits but overall we did OK. When we are in the car we always bring fruit and this time we brought bananas, apples and tangerines.

Two and a half days of our trip included a visit to my brother's new home in Wilmington, NC and have I told you they LOVE to cook! We were greeted with stuffed shells and chicken parmesan the first night - delicious and so hard to control portion size but we did reasonably well. The next night we had filets on the grill (yummy and perfect size) stuffed baked potatoes and baked butternut squash. I offered to make a salad (hint, hint) but they decided we didn't need one. I was so hoping to fill up on salad and skip the potato but he filled the plates before bringing them to the table.

We are so glad to be home and get back to our normal eating habits!

I agree with SLENDERELLA61. Just tell them that you have this big craving for salad and you'd be happy to fix it for dinner. All things considered, I think you did a great job of staying on plan! However, nothing beats being home and cooking your own meals in order to reach your goals.

Travel and food is really a conundrum when it comes to eating healthy. I just spent a month away from home and even though I only gained 2 pounds, I have found it difficult to get back on track. I've lost the 2 pounds and am trying for 3-4 more in December, but I'm traveling again the last half of the month!!!! Aargh! I try to make good choices, but don't always succeed as well as I would like to, so I don't beat myself up and know that each new day is always a new opportunity to succeed.

Enjoyed empathizing with you in your blog! Same boat, different place! lol
