12/4/2012 Early Christmas

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

I am a single mother with a 20yr old college student and a 18 yr old senior at home. I am trying to get them through college without any loans or without digging into their inheritence from their father. This makes money tight at times. When I started this weight loss journey I found a love for running. As the fall grew near I started going to garage sales to look for a treadmill. I had no luck. I had a friend who was going to give me hers when she moved but found an apartment that was big enough to put it in so I lost out again! Well, I checked into a YMCA membership and figured I would work a few hours a week overtime to afford this so me and the kids could have something to do in the winter together and of course I could run on a treadmill when it gets cold. (I have a low tolerence to cold weather) Saturday when I woke up there was what looked like a new treadmill on my doorstep. I kid you not! I wanted to cry I was so excited. I had my daughters big farm-boy boyfriend bring it into the den so I could use it. Plugged it in and it works. All weekend went by without anyone calling to own up to it. Finally Sunday night I got a call from my dad. Yep, it was my parents that dropped it off in the wee hours of the morning Saturday. They said they had bought it a few years ago and used it for a clothes hanger. No wonder I haven't seen it, it was disguised. My parents have always been fit and in shape. Even now that they are 67 they still work out 4 nights a week. My mother has always ridden me about my weight after I put on some pounds, so I think this was their way of saying they were proud and to keep it up. Dad has always had a hard time saying things, it always came in a material way from him. This is the biggest motivation for me!

That is so awesome. It brought tears to my eyes. It really touched me and I think it just brought back my inspiration on pushing forward through my recent struggles of not staying on track and staying focused on where I am going. I lost my dad 7 months ago and he was my inspiration. He encouraged me always.
Know that your parents are proud of you always even if they don't speak it. I am so happy for you and thank you for sharing!
