1st Sunday of Advent

Monday, December 03, 2012

In most advent wreaths there are four candles in a circle format of greenery with a white candle in the center to represent Christ. My Wreath has carvings around the base for each week of the month leading towards Christmas. My first candle is purple and represents FAITH [I know there are other liturgies for this, in fact ours at church calls the first candle Prophesy ... and that is a friend in the pic who gave permission for me to use this picture] But I am growing in FAITH every day and like this plan for my home this year.

After 28 years of Home day care, I have three very fat binders of December/Advent activities and teaching ideas and since retiring, I am going back through one of them this year to see if I can narrow down the pages and finding it hard to turn loose of any of this sharing with you-all has been special to my heart and brings so many good memories.
I would encourage any of you to journal or keep scrapbooks or notebooks of some form of the way you celebrate the Advent season...they fill in so many of the gaps when you change your lifestyle through retirement or moving or grief/loss. It has been precious to see some of the things My Mom came and did with us over the years and since I had children 24/7 some years, I have events and crafts and "teaching Jesus" for every day of the month! I am so blessed.

Thanks for sharing this. Advent has become more special to me this year as I deal with holidays for the first time after loss of DH. Our church is celebrating a "year of faith", and it's fitting to reflect on the lighting of that first candle as a symbol of faith.
