With the right attitude comes success!

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Ok Success may be a bit too strong a word for it but sitting around feeling sorry for myself won't get me anywhere so I took action with my financial situation. I really needed to do this for my weight management too, I've been struggling on so many levels, motivation to eat good food has waned but an effort to keep the grocery bill lower has left me with the choice of slightly less healthy foods or foods higher in calories (I still buy basic ingredients so much of it is in my control) I'm finding that I'll just have a bowl of muesli for lunch because I know it's cheap food and it tastes good, but the calories can really add up. I'm eating way less protein too and I was eating the higher end of my protein is what kept things going well for me. I know there are cheap protein options like lentils but they don't pack as much protein in for the calories and my carbs end up too high. I will have to try adding some things like this though.

I have found a few ways to make money at home, just using my internet connection some are treading dangerous territory but others are fun and straightforward.

The safe option for making money is in Matt using his skills in electonics, we're hoping that someday I'll be able to do this too (I have 16 years engineering & repair experience) so far he made us a profit of £200 with only an hour or two work. He overhauled and tested an electronic item and sold it. It's not really the safe option because it could cause problems if his employer finds out. But Matt is a well know engineer with a great reputation, he has been head hunted by another company and this company are doing what they can to keep him so at the end of the day he would probably come out with a slap on the wrist IF they found our. For us we either take this risk or we really could end up on the slippery road of borrowing to pay for the bills or food, it's a no brainer really!

I also signed up with a cashback website it's my new favorite site but it's UK based. When I make an online purchase I do it through this website and I earn cash back. So far I have £60 (about $40) and I have another £50 heading my way. Most of this I've earned through the purchase of my car insurance and other mundane things. Yesterday I registered with a bingo site - this is where the dangerous territory comes in. I am not a gambler - I just don't get it. But the cashback site give me £20 cash back for opening an account with one of several Bingo sites and depositing and playing £10. The bingo sites work on the fact that once you start playing you'll want to keep going. But we played £10 yesterday with the aim of frittering it away to earn the cash back and then never going back leaving us £10 profit.
But we won and after spending our initial deposit we won £13! So we made a total of £23 for an evening of bingo. I must say I really don't see the appeal of online bingo, maybe in an actual club it would be fun but it still not my thing. I've found quite a few online earners and most are things you do online everyday, like a paid search engine. Obviously SparkPeople is not the place for me to keep going into details like this but I just wanted to share with you that there are opportunities to make a bit extra pocket money. I'm thinking about creating a blog just to share these things. The upshot is, for this month we are doing ok, next month is a different story but I'm confident that I can make enough extra money for us to do ok on.

So for us Christmas is back on, I was really worried we wouldn't have the cash to buy Amelia gifts for her first Christmas, and while she wouldn't really know any different now, I'd love for her to have some things to look back on in years to come.

If you want the links for the websites I mentioned then leave a comment on my page or send me a sparkmail. I won't blog on this topic again on spark, but I had to get that off my chest, if I can keep these stresses away I'll be in a better situation to spend more time sparking and keeping a closer eye on my diet too.

I really appreciated the support from everyone who commented on my blog last week, I was feeling lost and you were there when I needed you. emoticon Have a great week sparkfriends!

Hello! When my oldest son was little I babysat another little boy of the same age. It was a nice way to earn some money. But he was 2 years old at that time and I guess your little girl is younger, isn't she?
As for the inexpensive source of protein- do you eat eggs? And they don't have almost any carbs, too!
    Good luck and hugs!! emoticon
