I'm engaged!

If there ever was a better way to get motivated this was definitely it!

So I realize I have been away from sparkpeople off and on over the past year and a half. I'm not sure what happened but my motivation and willingness to keep pushing completely disappeared and I gained almost all the weight back minus 10 pounds. I don't have any excuses for it, I just stopped caring and started pretending again like I wasn't fat and had no problems. Heh... I lie the best to myself.

Then like a freakin freight train outta nowhere I was knocked over by this surprise proposal.

Little history :)

Jason and myself have been together for 5 1/2 years. We met through myspace (of all places haha). I flew out to meet him on June 28th of 2007 and then after that he moved in with me and my kids on December 15th of 2007. About a year after he moved in we got pregnant with our now 3 y/o son on purpose, he wasn't' a surprise. We've had ups and downs like alot of couples but he's never pressured me about losing weight or even got disappointed with me when I gave up after dropping 45 lbs and gaining 35 of it back. I knew we'd get married one day but there was never a big push for it. So on wed night when he asked me to marry him I was completely shocked.

Here is what happened!

Last week was supposed to be a busy week more so with my son's hockey than anything. Monday night my son has hockey practice for 2 hours but we had hockey pictures that day as well so it was hockey stuff from 6pm til roughly 930 pm. Picked him up and when i got home my boyfriend said he'd drive him to his game the next day which was two hours away. We kinda argued about it a little because he has to work at 530 am so him going to work and then coming home to drive my son to his game seemed like it would be rough on Jason cuz he wouldn't get home til just before midnight - if the weather behaved- and then have to be up early the next day. But he pushed and pushed so I just agreed to it (plus it meant getting out of driving for 4 hours :P) So tuesday came.. he came home and slept for about an hour and a half before he had to leave for the game and then left with my son. Got home at 1130 and immediately went to bed. The next day we had to work a "voluntary" kitchen shift which we usually split because really those shifts suck alot. But he said "well we got 3 of them to do.. the third being the longest. Why don't you do the one tonight and I'll do the one tomorrow so I can have a night off from doing stuff" so I said -sure sounds good. I went to my shift and finally got to a quiet part of the night where people weren't ordering stuff and started texting Jason asking him what was up and what he was doing. We play WoW and were supposed to do some game stuff but one of the people we play with ended up with a sick kid (supposedly) so the stuff we were supposed to do that night got cancelled (yea I'm a nerd lol) so he told me about this and said what if we just hang out you and me tonight away from games and stuff and I said yea sounds good. My shift finally ended and I got home about 930pm. I walked in the door and he was in the kitchen by the door so I took off my shoes and jacket and he said "I poured you a bath" I kinda laughed and was like wow.. do I stink?? But I figured he wanted me to be.. clean.. for shenanigans later that night... haha. So I got into the bathtub and he brought me a drink and then left and said "i might have a surprise for you later" So I sat in the bath and reached for my book (I'm reading a 15 book series on book 9. It's a wheel of time series and soooo awesome if you like fantasy type books) So I started reading.. turned the page and there was a note in my book. I won't give out details of the note but the last lines said " Now you may think I'm being my usually sweet self" ( which i'm pretty sure I snorted a laugh at XD) "but there's a reason for this. I'm standing outside the bathroom door and I'm really nervous, so if you could just say come in I have a question to ask you!" In shock I read that 15 times and it still didn't process haha but finally managed to get out the words "come in?" He opened the door and with tears in his eyes and his bottom lip quivering got down on one knee and said some stuff that my shocked brain still hasn't registered and then asked me to marry him! And I said yes!

5 days later and I'm still just shocked and amazed and still as excited as that night by all of it. But now I have found my motivation to dump this weight for good. We're not getting married til June 28th 2014 so i have 18 months to get rid of alot of it. My goal basically is to at least be under 200 lbs by then which means about 90 lbs to lose in 18 months. 5 lbs per month. That should be doable... right? I don't wanna be a whale in a wedding dress . He's never seen me in a dress lol so this needs to be a spectacular day. I need to look amazing! We're not hiring a wedding planner cuz there's only so much we can afford which is also the reason for the drawn out date. We'd also like to go to italy for our honeymoon if it's possible and I'd like to be in shape before then so that all the touring won't be murder on my feet and legs and back. It's do or die time! lol

If anybody knows any good wedding websites (free or with a small cost) that we can refer family and friends to I'm open to suggestions. We'd also like to set up a honeymoon fund that people can donate to as a wedding gift - if that makes sense. Is that something people even do? We've already been asked about wedding gifts but we've been together for 5 years - living together- so we basically have everything that we want right now. I just know from previous experience that when people have been living together for a long time cash gifts seem to be what people give.

I'm just so very excited! I can't wait for these next 18 months for all of the planning!

    Congrats! Happy for you!

I eloped so I can't offer wedding planning advice but it looks like you got some good suggestions.

Sounds like you are really excited and you have someone very special. You have a great motivation to look and feel your best on your wedding day. You already have someone who loves you and it's great that you have that love and support. My husband has loved me when I was out of shape, in shape, overweight, healthy weight...so that is really helpful because not having that acceptance and love can be stressful. So, enjoy this next phase of your life--planning and getting in the best shape that makes you feel good for your wedding and honeymoon. Your new healthy lifestyle begins and I know you can do this! emoticon emoticon emoticon

That is so amazing, cute and exciting. When I got engaged in 2010 we were going to have our wedding June 28th 2011. So I found that funny. (Life changed, so did our wedding date).

    I used theknot.com

I had a friend get married this past summer, and she had a thing that people could help pay for their honeymoon. I can't remember the website though. If I do I will let you know.

    Good Luck and Have fun!!!!

    congratulations!!!!

Congratulations! That sounds so romantic!!! A wedding is a great motivator to lose weight :)

As for websites, simply start at theknot.com (it saved my life when i was planning my wedding) you'll get most of the info you need included a check list you can personalize. And I'm sure you can ask about the honeymoon donation websites on their message boards. Happy planning!
