Just Desserts

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I ate well. Okay, I may have eaten a wee bit too well. I actually had a slight tummy ache. Can't remember the last time that happened. Tried to pace myself. Tried to watch those appetizers. Maybe just ate more than I thought. Guess my stomach can't handle that kind of excitement anymore. No worries, back to normal eating habits today.

Now, just to let you know, whenever my family gets together to celebrate, they are firm in their belief that there should be more desserts than there are people physically there to eat them !! Heaven forbid that there isn't enough food. People will starve ! Don't believe it ? I have proof.



There was a blueberry pie, pumpkin pie, apple crumble, lemon merengue pie, apple pumpkin bunt cake, carrot cake, riccota pie, chocolate chip cookies, fudge, chocolate candy, etc. This isn't everything either ! There was a small rum cake to celebrate the grandparents 67th anniversary along with Thanksgiving.

In short, my family doesn't believe in "moderation". LOL !!!

    That's funny because by the time the kitchen was done kicking my butt, I didn't have the energy to bake the cherry pie. Thank goodness one of my guests brought gluten free cup cakes, which the kids loved. My stomach couldn't handle all the rich foods either, though I tried to say within my range, so today, I am drinking lots of lemon water. I also had to say niet to coffee and tea all day--torture. In any case, I am already planning some healthier options for my sister's Christmas dinner, which I have been cooking these last few years. (How did that happen?) I see asparagus, steamed carrots, and salad on the menu. Baked cinnamon apples for dessert.

    My family will believe in moderation. Just kidding.

    Seems to be one of those things folks think is necessary to a meal. LOL I don't know if it was the fact that I was raised on a ranch and we seldom had dessert, but I'm just not a sweets eater. I like them, but they don't tempt me like they do so many others. That picture does nothing for me, well, maybe upsets my stomach a bit. LOL Now if you would have had a picture of jerky, pepperoni, sausage, olives(green or black), ham, rib eye, prime rib, etc., I would have drooled all over myself. ;-)

    Oh my!!!! I think I am in heaven just looking at your picture! That is my kind of Thanksgiving...never mind the rest. We are only having one thing for dessert...pumpkin pie. I found some canned pumpkin at a special grocery store. It was amongst the pickles and olives of course! emoticon

    We had the same situation lol. I made them take "most" of it with them though. Last year I threw out a whole apple pie, 1/2 a costco pecan pie and some other pit because nobody would take it with them. Yes, down the garbage disposal it went, so this year they believed me! and they took most of it with them. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with everybody!

    Sorta sounds like my family, but it's not limited to the desserts. We have 25 people to dinner, but we cook for 40!

    Geez. I did good just getting pecan and pumpkin pies made. Oh, and an old family recipe called Glorified Rice. It's cooked regular rice with marshmallows, pineapple, whipped cream (the REAL kind) and walnuts. For some reason the rice wasn't completely done and I was trying not to taste everything and eat a ton MORE calories. So it was just a little crunchy when it was cold. I didn't boo-hoo about that, however, because I know underdone anything (rice, potatoes, veggies) does't raise your sugar as high. So I was good with that. And the guys didn't even complain. Maybe they liked it that way. I gotta say I realized as I was eating that stuffing DOES come in a close second for me on favorites. I didn't make cauliflower this year. That's why they got rice instead. The scales were good to me this morning, too!

    Went to my sisters for dessert and she too had enough to feed a small army! Oh well....it was great to get together! Off to work today!

    Off - I was scheduled to work - so we did a pot luck. I made a small pork roast and made bread pudding from a SP recipe. We have enough food in the break room to feed a small country! Entrees, a few side dishes, and lots and lots of desserts. Sigh ...
