Thanksgiving Day, 11/22/12

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Have had a very nice Thanksgiving holiday. We began our day watching the Macy's Parade and then about an hour of the Purina Dog Show. Both traditions. While waiting for dinner to be ready Isaac and my dad were watching the football game.

Dinner was ready about 2 p.m. and I was so happy the gluten-free stuffing turned out so well. Everyone loved it! I've never seen the kids eat stuffing like they did today. Nobody missed the mashed white potatoes, rolls and pie either so I'm chalking one up for a healthier Thanksgiving dinner at our house. I actually tracked my intake this year and fell within my range so I'm excited about that!

We teased my dad with this on his plate. As a kid he always had the drumstick. I didn't realize Tim was leaving the thigh attached too, but it made it funnier!

Dad was ready to head home around 3:30 and once I got back from dropping him off we got the outside Christmas lights strung and the nativity scene in place. Thankfully it was a sunny, windless and 50 degree afternoon.

Then we came in and watched "Yogi's First Christmas."

Isaac is already hungry again (3 hours later) so he heated up leftover hotdogs and is now waiting for popcorn. He said at dinner that he wouldn't be hungry for a couple of days. Yeah, right!

Tomorrow we'll begin cleaning the living room and moving furniture so we can turn on White Christmas in the early evening and begin building the Christmas tree. It takes up so much room. Decorations will follow on Saturday.

We love the dog show too. It was great to see that long haired French basset take second place in the hound class. There weren't any Catahoulas in the herding dogs which disappointed us now that Sadie is a part of our menagerie. Maybe next year!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving too--family and fun is what it is about, not waiting in a line to go save a few dollars and long lines shopping. I sure hope we never have to resort to all of that.
    Take care,
