My Daily Bread

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

I've been baking sourdough bread for the past 10 years, almost every week and when I track my bread, it's always a guess.. Yesterday I got out my postage scale as I haven't got a proper food scale and one loaf came in at 2 pounds, so if I slice the bread into 32 slices, that would give me a one ounce slice... That's one skinny slice in my books!

Well, I had a good look at the loaf, and figured we are lucky to get 12-13 slices out of a loaf.. OH MY... all those calories!!!

For lunch today I cut a really thin slice and toasted it and it came out looking like melba toast and almost as crisp.. but did taste pretty good with peanut butter..

I haven't made the cinnamon buns for quite some time, and I wouldn't even want to figure out how many calories they are!

The nutrition tracker has ruined my days of cutting off the warm crust and slathering it with butter.. emoticon

Hi Luvleylorelie No such luck.. I have a really good mixmaster with a dough hook. that can knead up to 6 loaves of bread in one go!! I got it because it got to hard to knead bread with the arthritis in my neck area and now my hands.. It allowed me to continue baking my sourdough which is a big hit with the family.

Mmmm. That looks good! I love homemade bread. You might be set if kneading bread counts as banking calories! It's a thought anyway! emoticon

Isn't it amazing how much we stuff in our mouths when we're not even thinking about it. I love tracking my nutrition and fitness info. It's made all the difference in my fitness plan!

For Thanksgiving, we decided not to stay home but to escape to the coast. I've been very careful what I ate and have tracked everything to the best that I could guestimate.... and I just barely screeched in under the max range across the board!

And though I have a ways to look 'good' in it, I actually wore a bathing suit to the hotel pool this evening . . . . I do not remember the last time I did that.... it's been forever. But nothing I could eat would feel as good as that!

    WooooHoooo. We can do this!

There's NOTHING like a homemade slab of warm bread with butter. I figure all things in moderation (which means over the course of a week I have to balance out that little piece of heaven!).

Wow, I haven't had homemade bread in years. My mom used to make it. But it's probably a good thing that I haven't had it. I don't know if my willpower is strong enough to resist!

Welllllll....I wished you had better news for yourself and your bread!!- did you use the recipe thing on SP to put in your ingredients and then figure out the portions -- perhaps it wouldn't be as bad as you think??? -- Keep searching for a similar healthier recipe that might work for you!! I don't bake bread on my own....and prob. from your yummy looking pictures -- it's a good thing!! Good luck!

    I can relate.
No more warm crusts of freshly baked bread for me either.
Instead I just take the slices and glue them to my thighs.
