Good News on Two Fronts

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Earlier this year I was once denied the opportunity to give blood because my BP was to high. That means my BP was above 180/100 which is their max allowed. That is Hypertension Stage 2. So, I had been watching it. I can go on-line to track my BP for all of my donations.

Earlier this year I recorded a 156/100 during a successful donation. Still Hypertension but Stage 1. Eight weeks ago my reading was 142/94. I was still in Stage 1 Yesterday when I donated it was 120/80. That is Prehypertension, but at the very bottom of the range for both. Normal is right around the corner.

I was interesting that my pulse was 58. That is a normal resting pulse for me. I full expected it to be up because I rode my bike the 4 blocks to the donation center. Five months ago I would have been puffing.

To top it off this morning I weighed in below 220 for the first time. I am now down 65 officially.

25 more to go. I am going home for a quick Christmas visit. I have not seen my parents since before I started this journey. They know I am losing weight, but I have not shared the magnitude of the loss. My motivation is to be as low as I can so I can wow them. Like the big reveal on the Biggest Loser. My 84 year old parents are extremely healthy and health conscious and it is a big deal to them. This is my biggest present for them. My fatest picture that I posted on my page is from Chrismas last year.

What a great blog: your parents will be thrilled with your progress. You have done very well in a short period of time with lots of determination.

Thanks for your comment on my losing blog. You say you are 4-5 months from "goal", but you might want to be thinking about "maintenance" now (and the At Goal and Maintaining: Transition to Maintenance Team is a great place to get into the maintenance mode!

You might consider talking to your GP about that - I donate plasma and have to have a yearly physical at the clinic- the attending physician told me to consider going on BP meds as he told me that he didn't emoticon want to lose any donors. My Dad had untreated hypertyension and I know it contributed to his 2 heart attacks (he was a non smoker). Generally by the time you get symptoms from hypertension it can be too late. Not trying to scare you but it gave me pause for thought when I heard that.

Fantastic! I've only been on spark a short while, comparatively but the progress you've made in even that short time is very inspiring. Way to go!
