Day 3: Gratitude journal

Monday, November 19, 2012

Today I'm winding down from a somewhat long day- - and have been reflecting on what I've read. I could say I'm thankful for a number of arbitrary things and call it a day. But I've decided to give my journal entries than just a passing thought.

It is so easy to fall into the habit of complaining. Or to get caught up with others who are complaining. I'm glad I'm doing this journal because when I write about what I'm thankful about it literally changes my frame of mind. I do believe something in my brain changes when I continually focus on gratitude. So, just what is it that I'm thankful for today?

Prayer. Prayer truly changes things. Me especially.

I am thankful that instead of complaining about what is wrong to just any and every one that I am allowed to approach the the throne of God in prayer. The reading that I was reflecting on earlier had to do with the Israelites complaining to God about their circumstances. They were so consumed with their day to day circumstances that they began to complain about their lack instead of thanking God for what they had, no matter how little or big. Needles to say God was not pleased.

In difficult circumstances that I face, I can still honor God's provisions. I can acknowlege Him when i have a thankful, prayerful mindset.

Prayer is very important for our spiritual life. It is how we communicate with God. It isn't just a bunch of gimmes, but it is actual conversation with God.
