Tri stuff on my mind

Monday, November 19, 2012

Well we went to the triathlon team meeting last night. All I can say is WOW! My head is still spinning with all the information and the excitement. After a very busy day I went to bed early last night and now I'm up at 4:00 am thinking about it all. WOW!

The team will focus on a Olympic race the first part of June, then a 70.3 Mid summer with a Iron man late summer. OK so you know I'm just looking at the Olympic for this summer. I would like to get two Olympic in this summer I think. We shall see.

I had my husband and daughter go with me so they could see the place and hear what the commitment level was that was involved in doing this. There was talk about the base fitness level. Lets just say a month ago I wasn't there.. Now I'm getting back there. I need to up just a few things to fully get there but I'm on the right track.

The team starts in January and with it I will be getting a 'kit' (racing gear). I will get a plan to follow, group runs, and rides, and other work out.

Sitting in the room I was nervous and scared. You see the triathlon people at the events and it's a bit intimidating. They have muscle on muscle. In this room last night it was the land of the misfit triathlete. I felt I fit right in.

After coming home and talking about it some more we decided I should go for it. It has me doing the Olympic triathlon about 3 months earlier than my mind was thinking I would do it! Yet I know I'm in a good possession to do it in June. It is just the push I need to go and do it. Also being a part of a team and a belonging to something cool and healthy is good for the soul.

I officially announced on Facebook last night that I am doing the Olympic triathlon in June. (some how that makes it totally official and hard to back out of). I told the donut man that I have implemented phase 1 of a 3 phase plan. YIKES!

The official training starts in January/February It will have a 20 week specific plan for us to follow. I just hope I don't fall on my face in the run, or panic in the water.

land of the misfit triathlete... I love it!

Have you seen the book "Slow, Fat, Triathlete"? Humorously written, you might enjoy it.
