Healthy choices

Well, it really is possible to make healthy choices at fast food places. I knew that, but I admit I haven't done it much( ok fairly rarely). I go out with a group of friends after church every week and due to time and cost considerations we usually end up at a fast food place. I really have the best of intentions going in( and it helps that they are all offering more healthy alternatives) but I usually end up giving in to the fatter, greasier alternatives(what can I say I love McDonald's french fries.) emoticon Today I was determined to follow through and eat healthier, and I did! emoticon We went to Arby's and I had a Farmhouse salad with oven roasted turkey. It was delicious. emoticon I enjoyed it very much and it really filled me up. Eating healthier does require more thought and a little checking. but it is worth it. If you're not sure about the nutrition in an item, ask! Most places now have nutrition charts available. I'm glad I did because I almost got the salad with crispy chicken and I knew from past experience that crispy chicken isn't always the healthiest choice. I was right. the salad with the turkey was 240 calories. With chicken? 430! I saved 190 calories by making a better choice! I will be more diligent in this from now on. It doesn't take that much extra effort and the food is delicious! Happy eating all! emoticon

    Way to go Susie. You're right ....making the right choices isn't all that hard. You just have to change the way you think and take a little extra time in making your food decisions.

    I'm proud of you Susie. You're doing absolutely wonderfully well with all your intentions and I can't help but believe that you're going to succeed in attaining the goals you've set for yourself. :)

    There are a few healthy choices at Fast Food places but, personally, I'm never that thrilled with most of them and most still are loaded with salt. The healthiest options are usually the salads and often I have to leave out something like croutons or use dressing I really am not that fond of. The less I eat at any Fast Food place the happier I am really. I seem to stall or gain when I eat out. I'm glad that it works for someone because people like me certainly miss out on a lot of social occasions due to it. I have a friend who is a vegetarian who is in similar circumstances. Her church friends invite her to McDonald's every week but there is not a lot there that she would eat either. I wish I could learn to like healthy fast food. I'm glad that you can enjoy your time with your church friends. Social contacts are important.
