City Lights 5K- Fastest Ever!
Sunday, November 18, 2012
This was my first 5K in about a year and a half. This one was only $15 an entry and my teen boys were $10. I had signed up for it the previous 2 years but had something come up. I thought this one would be fun because it kicks off a celebration held in our downtown area.... there are street vendors, festivities, kids Christmas choirs, and finishes up with a big parade.
So I did CrossFit that morning which I told myself I wasn't going to do, but could not help myself because I love CrossFit so much. Our workout was 150 pushups, but each time you stopped you had to sprint 50 meters. My strategy was to do 5 pushups at a time- wanted to nail my pushups without "smokin'" my arms. It took me about 30 minutes.
Our 5K was at 4 and when we got there I was feeling really tight in my hamstrings. UGH! There were about 100 runners of all ages. My mood was kind of down because I was getting attitude from my boys. They both claimed they knew nothing about me signing them up for this 5K and they both didn't want to be there. I know, and my hubby even remembers, they both told me to sign them up for it several weeks ago.... but we have been so busy these past few weeks I hadn't really talked about it.
But I put all of that behind me and just focused on the run. I made sure I started up front so I wouldn't have to weave in and out of people. I had my music going and I concentrated on my mid foot strike and leaning forward from my hips and boom bada bing! I finished at 25:06! That is BY FAR my fastest time ever! My previous PR was 2 years ago at a turkey trot 29:14. I had no idea I could improve so much on my time.
So I took 1st place in my age group by far.... I finished 19th overall. I was really disappointed that there was no awards ceremony, lol..... I wanted a medal, LOL! I probably won't do this one again.... I like a race with a little more people and a little more fanfare. So I have 2 more coming up.... a 5K on the 1st and a 10K on the 8th. Both of those I did 2 years ago and I really liked both of them.
Just going to try and make it through the holidays now.... Eating has been hit or miss. I love the Paleo diet.... I feel so good when I go without the grains and dairy. But, well.... it's just hard.
Have a great week everybody! I am planning a nice Thanksgiving dinner, but am looking forward to some Black Friday shopping with my sister. Then I have the following week off from work so I can get my house ready for Christmas. I want to really savor and enjoy the season this year without even stressing about anything. I'm excited!
