An Update Before Turkey Day

Sunday, November 18, 2012

Just thought I'd update before the holiday. We have been super busy bc our good friends had their first baby and we have been trying to spend as much time as possible before we leave for WV. She is so sweet! I'll probably be spending part of today with mommy and baby.

I have been doing ok, but the thyroid thing is exhausting. It has dropped down to .059 and I can't change my dose until the week before Christmas. The reason why: the pituitary tumor is pressing on the good cells (as my MD tried to explain) and confusing my thyroid function. They think they have been treating for the opposite of what my labs are showing. Meaning, say my thyroid labs are saying that I'm low (hyperthyroid), I might actually be high (hypothyroid). It's all confusing. So, they dropped my dose and I have to wait the full six weeks it takes for the meds to fully work. So, I have been dealing with exhaustion, heart palpations, major mood changes (I'm sometimes just pure evil), insane hunger, etc.

Besides, the thyroid BS, I'm doing pretty well. I'm looking forward to the Turkey Trot and having a few days off. My mother in law doesn't sound super excited that my diet has changed bc my cholesterol. I'm going to try and go to the grocery store when we arrive so she doesn't have add more to her cooking. I'm planning on making cholesterol free biscuits, plain green beans and a jello chocolate pudding pie, with the supervision by my husband--lol. I'm a terrible cook.

I got super disappointed on Saturday bc I had been feeling pretty down so I booked a facial and wax, that always makes me feel better about myself. I called on Tuesday and made an appointment for Sat morning and when I got there, they didn't have the appointment. I was so disappointed. Instead, we visited the new baby and spent the evening knitting hats while my husband played Black Ops 2.

So, I guess that's it. The next few days are going to be cleaning, packing and seeing the baby one more time. I hope everyone enjoys their holiday, stay healthy and safe! Be thankful for everything and everyone in your life!

PS: I bought Laurie's Fitbit and can't wait for it to arrive! Anyone else use on? How do you like it?

It is my understanding that the crucial numbers are your TSH and T4 levels...

(My endocrinologist used to always be after me for keeping my T4 at the highest edge of "normal" which kept my TSH partially suppressed, but after several years I believe we are "agreeing to disagree"; these are the levels I need to maintain to stay functional!)

Oh, & hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday Jen!

Hang in there hopefully the tumor will shrink and stop effecting the thyroid readings. They are difficult enough to get in control for most people.

So sorry your thyroid is causing problems again :( Try to stay calm and hopefully the doctors will get it figured out. And sorry your MIL seemed disappointed about your diet change. It is really difficult around the holidays when others dont want to consider your own health changes. Be strong!!

I have had a fitbit for about a year now. I love it when I use it. But I sometimes forget about it. I've been using it for the past 2 weeks since I've been back in CO, and honestly it really just helps me stay accountible a thousand times more!!! I really dont like the fitbit website. I have mine synced to MyFitnessPal, which is where I log my food, but I think you can now sync it to SP also. :)

I don't know why, but I haven't been getting your blogs. Just caught up on everything, Sorry to hear that your having thyroid and cholesterol problems. Glad to see you're taking care of it all. Not easy, but, hang in there. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!!

P.S. now how you feel about your appointment. I reschedule an appointment and when they called to confirm the wrong date, told them I rescheduled. Didn't have me down and they don't have anything available. Now, I have to refigure my schedule and book another appointment. Hate that!!

Jen, I have never had to deal with thyroid issues but with my nursing background I have an inkling of how frustrating it can be. Hang in there and hopefully the docs will figure it out SOON!

Ms. Fitbit is packaged up and ready to hit the mail tomorrow!!! You will love her!
