What Words Do You Use?

Sunday, November 18, 2012

Although I have not had to deal with cancer Dr Bernie Siegel's article struck a chord with me.

"What words would I use to describe the biggest problem in my life?"
I can feel the stress and panic setting in. Fears of my health declining and my security being threatened. Real or imagined, This is high stress.
Running scared is not what I would like to do. I realize that there is potential.

Deepak Chophra would ask his children to repeat the following phrase after meditation:

I am responsible for what I see
I choose the feelings I experience
And set the goals I will achieve.
Everything that seems to happen to me
I ask for and receive as I have asked.

He would then ask what they wanted. they would say things like tickets to a game or a trip. He would listen patiently, and then he would ask if they wanted love, connection, inspiration, hope, happiness, and purpose. He taught his children to ask for both the qualities and the things we wanted in our life every day.

I found the first two lines "I am responsible for what I see, I choose the feelings I experience and set the goals I will achieve." to be my salvation. It helps me gain sight of the potential.
It all comes down to me and what I choose.

I found this all very profound. But I'm not a very introspective person (a business major). This gives me a lot of food for thought!

Great blog! Very often we cannot control what happens to us: but most of the time we can choose how we think about it . . . which my begin by how we describe it in words.

Thanks, Nancy! And thanks for your great comment on my "losing" blog.

"Perfect love casts out all fear."1 John 4:18. I find the best words to use are those from GOD's word, when I'm afraid, sad, worried, weary...He's got an answer for everything! And you're right - we choose! Shel

I think this is a running theme today in blogs I've read. Life really IS all about being responsible for what you see, the feelings experienced and the goals we achieve... or work towards achieving. Very empowering.

Great blog and thanks for sharing this.

HUGS We have so many situations we can't control, but we CAN control our reactions to what is going on.
