My First External Curling Bonspiel

Friday, November 16, 2012

I just finished curling in the TCA curling bonspiel and really enjoyed the experience! I was asked to skip a team of ladies from my club and over a 3-day period we curled a total of 5 games at 3 different clubs across the city. All of the games were close which was all we were hoping for! We did lose the first 2 games, the last in an extra end, which set us up in the fifth event and meant we needed to win all ensuing games, which we did! I think the 4th game was the biggest shocker for us as we were down by 3 with 3 ends to go and we kept stealing a point in each of the ends for a tie which meant another extra end! We managed to steal it too by about an inch which meant we were curling in our event final and being invited to the Thursday dinner. The last game was very close, tied after 6 and we were down by 1 going into the last end but we had the last rock to throw. I somehow managed to throw a perfect rock on my first attempt and the other skip wasn't able to dislodge it so we won by 1! Woo hoo, very exciting and besides a sumptious roast beef dinner, we also picked up an additional gift certificate which paid for our entry fee. I think I'm hooked and will be signing up again next year! I'm quite stiff today and as luck would have it I have to curl tonight at 9 pm. Probably won't be one of my stellar games! Oh well.
