My Best Friend

We may not have talked every day but often we did
The conversations never lasted shorter than a NCIS show
She was there when abandoned I was, left without much of a home
She was with me through struggle and strife, she was there when I was deeply down
Enjoying my stories of days gone by, she craved details of life without
Hearing stories of dates gone wrong, listening about those who lifted me up inside
Details about children always crept in; laughing at faces and antics they did
Talking of battles with authorities of treatment of children and family
Crying together at losses we both had, tear filled conversations of empathy
Staying afloat just to hear one another, not wanting to hang up ever
She was there with me when the Twin Towers were destroyed
Shocked and numb I fell and we cried together so hurt and pained
So many lives were touched closer we became as we talked
Shared fears and sorrows, she was amazingly strong
I have called her Mom at times, Always and Forever my friend
I missed the times she needed me most, now there is no going back
She is gone onto other things
She definitely was a strong woman
As I hear her words in my thoughts,
I ache inside for My Best Friend….
