Patience Pays Off

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

While yesterday was a "tough to stay motivated" day it did turn around. I did get a good work out it, ate well all day, and read some inspirational articles. I also had a mini-blowup with my husband. When I looked back at how I got to my "low" it wasn't just the number on the scale but watching my husband reach into the pantry at 9:30 in the morning a pulling out a handful of mini chocolate chip cookies - and offering me a handful as well.

I'm sure others face this challenge with their partners as well. My guy is generally supportive and highly supportive of working out. But as I make better food choices (and I don't make a big deal about it - just more vegetables and smaller portions of calorie-dense food), he has been taking bigger portions and gaining weight. Yeah, I think we can all see that there are issues. He has to face his on his own terms and his own timing.

Our blowup was over what being "supportive" meant -- and clearly offering someone a handful of chocolate chip cookies when you know they are trying to lose weight is not high on the support-o-meter. He is a fair man and acknowledged that I had not changed his daily food choices - we still ate the things he enjoyed, I wasn't nagging him or even giving him the evil wife eye about his choices (and that's been tough because he says he wants to lose weight but he hasn't reached the point of taking action on it).

Oh well. Today is another day. My dear husband will modify his behavior or he won't. I just have to stand fast without being a martyr (as much fun as that might be).

Patience comes from God and Jesus taught us how to be patient. But we need Jesus in us in order to have His kind of patience. God Bless YOU! Vic.
