This year we are hosting my parents for Thanksgiving. Usually we all go over to their house. This year Rena (sister) and Sabastian (nephew) are going to be in TN for a peewee football tournament. ~Side note: Sabastians k-1 team finished undefeated and ranked #2 in OH! So proud of them!~Things with Scott (brother) are tense and well I'll leave that for another day!
I usually do most of the cooking anyway so this is just more convinient for me. I've been trying to find some new recipes instead of the same ol same ol. I've tried to find some healthier options too. I think I have done a good job. We are planning on a lot of food, but we will freeze what we can and eat the rest over the weekend. Left overs mean I don't have to cook! I would like to say that Pinterest is the most amazing concept ever! Well, next to Sparkpeople LOL! I have scoured dozens and dozens of recipes and been able to keep them straight!
Here is the final menu:
Ham and Turkey (We were a dead split so we get both!)
Oyster Dressing (My mom is making this because I find it disgusting!)
Butternut Squash & Shiitake Mushroom Wild Rice Risotto (Pinterest via Allrecipes)
Sweet Potato Oranges (Pinterest)
Ultimate Green Beans (Pinterest via Allrecipes)
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy (request from Shane since he won't eat two of the other sides)
Raw Veggie Tray with Annie's Roasted Red Pepper dressing (Pre dinner snacks)
Cranberry salad (Homemade with little sugar)
Bob Evan's Rolls (A tradition I'm not looking to replace!)
Pumpkin and Pecan Pie (Mom is making these so I have no say)
This is what i have spent a good three weeks trying to plan out! I'm hoping that all goes well and we can host every other year. I must be the only person on the planet that actually fights to host a holiday. I look at it this way, I stress over it anyway. I might as well stress about it in my own environment.
Now to wait til friday when I am buying the ham, turkey and cans of sweet potatoes. I would much rather have fresh over canned but the fresh hasn't been so fresh! I might try to pick up everything for the cranberry salad so I can whip it up and freeze it.
