50 Pounds ...

Hit the 50 pound mark yesterday. My weightloss has slowed over the past several weeks, and I'm not sure why. Probably my body has adjusted to what I'm doing, based on past experiance and what I've read over the years.

So this past Saturday, in an effort to change things up a bit, I added some jogging into one of my 30 minute walks. The biggest takeaway from that was I'm still in pretty crappy shape. When I ran, I did so until my chest was pounding (which didn't take long), then walked 'til the H/R monitor showed 120bpm, then jogged some more (repeat). Felt ok at the end, but the monitor showed max H/R was 189. My calculated max is 175. I've got a lot of work to do.

On a lighter note, I noticed I'm on the last (smallest) notch on my size 44 belt. Time to add it to the donation bag and break out one of the smaller ones . . . emoticon

    If you are adding running to the mix, I highly recomend the Galloway run-walk-run method. It is a effective and injury-free system, I run 1min-walk 1min and have improved my fitness, endurance, stamina (and amazingly my speed as well) with this method plus it is one of the best calorie burners plus strengthens rather than stresses the joints. I have gone from a none-runner to a 3x a week runner.

    Great job! Way to mix it up, and don't worry - running does get easier. Just keep it slow and steady while you build up your base!

    When I rowed in college, I remember the coaches and trainers saying that your erg time would be the same as your jog/run time over teh same distance. Let me know if that is true!

    Way to go, Rick! That's really super news!

    You have the right idea about shaking up the routine. Hopefully the cooler weather offers opportunities and ideas that you can put to work.

    WOOHOO!!!! super great news on that belt. And that jogging will def. kick things into gear. Even the little you are doing now. For one thing, it's new and your body will freak out(in a good way) and the next time you try it, it'll be a little easier. Congrats!!!
