Marriage

Monday, November 12, 2012

I used to think about marriage and longevity in the context of my ancestors. My parents 50+ years prior to my dad passing and both sets of grandparents saw 50+ years together. I was in awe of the love each of them shared with their spouse. My maternal grandparents were the epitome of a couple in love even after 50+ years.

Well this weekend, actually today, we celebrated 19 years. It just seems like yesterday when I fell in love with this wonderful man. He is my best friend. We have traveled all over the world together, seen things some only dream about, and are the best of friends and lovers.

I know he won't ever read this blog, but I must put it down on paper (so to speak) that he completes me. I am so blessed to be married to this wonderful and wise man.

Congratulations... I understand and agree with the sentiments. I am a high school teacher and a couple of years ago one of my students asked how long my husband and I had been married (we are approaching 43 years.) When I told the kid, his eyes got big, and he said, "I didn't know people COULD be married that long" and another girl in the class started to cry.. .said she wished everyone could say that.

    Sigh.

My mom was married, unhappiily, three different times. His folks were married more than 50 years, but it was clearly not happy in spite of 9 kids... so we feel like we hit the jackpot. I was only 20 when we married (three weeks after my 20th birthday) and I look back and am amazed at how lucky we've been.

Congratulations.. and may you have many more years of adventures together!
