An Unplanned Vacation

Saturday, November 10, 2012

After hearing about my mom (86) having a TIA I was searching for flights I could afford when my two older daughters said they were driving up and I should just ride with them so that's what we did. The middle daughter and I left Orange Park on Saturday and headed west to Niceville in the panhandle where we picked up the oldest daughter before heading north and west to Lincoln, Nebraska. We spent the night in Niceville and another on the road arriving in Lincoln on Monday. First stop was the retirement center mom lives in so we walked in and knocked on her door. She asked if someone was there so I opened the door and walked in saying 'yes, there is someone here'. She did a double take when she saw the 3 of us because my siblings hadn't told her we were coming though my dad and stepmom said everyone was talking about it at a birthday party the night before. lol

My youngest brother was nice enough to put us up in his house-since his divorce he has a lot of room so we each had our own bedroom-that was nice. We got to have breakfast with him and spend evenings with him and while he was at work we spent time with my dad and stepmom, my mom and my sister. My sister got two of her kids and their families together one evening along with our parents for a nice dinner. It was nice seeing my niece and nephew, their spouses and kids. My oldest brother who lives in Lincoln was actually travelling from N. Carolina where he visited with his only grandchild to Orlando before heading back to Nebraska so I guess I missed him at both locations. My other brother lives in Denver so we totally missed him-he went back home about the time we left Florida. Anyway, we had a nice, though long, drive up there and back and lots of visiting with family.

The last leg of our journey is tomorrow after spending the night here in Niceville with the oldest. We will see her husband in the morning when he gets off his 24 hour shift as a firefighter on Eglin AFB before heading out for the last 5 hours in the car.

I've had very little exercise other than walking up and down stairs which I don't do much of at home and climbing in and out of a Traverse but the diet hasn't been too bad. Still hoping I can show a loss when I see the Dr Tuesday. I know I need to plan some menus and get my husband, youngest daughter and myself working on some actual weight loss! I can't do a lot with the daughter at 31 but I'm hoping to get my husband to start paying attention before his diabetes and heart issues get any worse.

Glad it all worked out for you to visit your Mom and be with the rest of the family! Hope she will be ok and have a speedy recovery and get to go home soon! It is very important for all of us to pay more attention to our health, because we don't want to end up in a hospital!

    Kerry,
It seems like you had a great visit! And I am sure your Mom, Sister, Dad, and StepMother appreciated your visit! Trying to eat right on vacation/road trip/visits, is a difficult task, but you tried and seems like you made it! As for the exerc ise, GOD knows you where "exercising your heart" doing the right thing for your family, so let it go at that, and when you can, you will hop right back on the "path for your health!"

    So I'd say it was a WIN/WIN!
    Hugs,
    Fran
