What Did I Sign Up For?!?!

Friday, November 09, 2012

My cousin got eviction papers earlier this week and today I got the call from her for help. No one in her family offered to take them in til they could get an apartment so I felt I had to offer. She has 3 children ranging in age from 10 months to 6 years. I also figured I could take advantage of her being here and clean up the house as the kids need a safe place to play and she will make it happen sooner. I also realized after it will be a lot of stress on me esp since they don't have much money to help out but I am prepared to make the best of it. They will help out with their food as much as possible but since we don't eat much already I think it will help us to eat more regularly. It will also help us to use some of the food we haven't been using but need to. I am getting more prepared for my yard sale and am forcing myself to price some things fairly low just to get rid of them. I also made it to the store today and got some groceries, unfortunately no fresh produce as it was Sam's Club. I am going to try and hit up Walmart in a few days for the smaller items. I also am getting in a good workout trying to make space for my family and having to make multiple trips back and forth to a room. Oddly not feeling a bit stressed now but my finger is really starting to hurt from the thorns yesterday.

My cousin is already on food stamps/WIC and I am apply for food stamps myself next week. Rules will be established on day one, once broken they have less time to stay with me. I have a feeling there won't be any broken rules however as they have no other place to go. I really don't expect them to do chores but she may want the kids to do some which I am fine with along with their playtime/area and meals. I have been busy going through some boxes in preparation for them and feeling I am making much progress, even found my mother's life insurance policy so that will help out my father and I. The more I face each obstacle thrown at me I take it as a challenge, if I can overcome that with everything else so far this year I can definitely take on weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

I agree that you need to put some rules down because then there would not be disagreements that you that would pop up and then both of you would be mad at each other or say that she did not say that. Watching the judges on TV tells me that happens all the time. So you need to think of what you want her and her children to do and have it written out and signed before she moves in.

Oh how kind of you to take them in. I do recommend that you write out and agree to some ground rules to what is expected of them. Chores and ect. As for food goes make sure she takes advantage of food programs that she might be able to get like WIC for the kids and food banks. If she can get food stamps then she can get a free cell phone. I had one friend that charged a few bucks to the people that stayed with them. She gave them part of the money when they moved out. So glad you aren't feeling stressed by this. Have a great weekend. emoticon
