Fitness Tests - Setting a baseline
Monday, November 05, 2012
After working out for a month, I felt brave enough to take the 3 recommended basic fitness tests: 1 min crunch, 1 min modified push-ups, and 3 min step (to determine recovery heartrate).
Much to my surprise, based on the results and my age, I ended up in the very good or excellent range for all three. It is good to get affirmation that I'm in better shape than I thought but I am taking care to not get too cocky about it. I have worked to get in better shape but I am also blessed with an "inner athlete" that tends to muscle up easier than some folks.
It's actually a bit of a challenge because my husband's body composition is slower to build muscle (yeah, all kinds of gender irony going on here). He's eight inches taller and can lose weight practically by sneezing; unfortunately my body likes to hold on every calorie consumed - it's very efficient, in fact downright cheap when it comes to burning calories.
Yup, if the world ever goes up in flames it will be just me (with my "blessed" metabolism) and the cockroaches.
