Mom's broken hip

Saturday, October 27, 2012

My mom is 84 years old and the one thing we feared the most happened. On Wed Oct 10 as she was leaving to go to her volunteer job, she tripped going out the front door. She fell and landed on the porch on her right side and broke her hip. Luckily she did not break it at the joint, she broke it in a V shape on the side. She fell at 8:30 am and had surgery at 3:45 pm where she had a rod and pins put in. The next day she was up walking the halls in the hospital with a walker. We were able to bring her home the following Tuesday the 16th. We could have brought her home earlier but her hemoglobin counts kept dropping and they gave her a transfusion on Monday. She has been doing fantastic, the physical therapist comes to the house and she is very pleased with her progress. She is now doing short trips here in the house with just her cane. This past Monday we took her to bingo for the first time since she had been home. Everyone at bingo told her how they missed her being there. She is now back to going to church and will be able to help at our church bazaar. As long as she has the wheelchair for prolonged periods she is good.
