'Less is more'....is working! :-)

Friday, October 26, 2012

The new, more flexible me is liking the 'less is more' approach to my fitness routine. It has suddenly become harder than ever to gain access to my treadmill - it lives in my DH's studio, and at the moment so does he...about 15 hours a day, beginning at about 6 a.m. So I've been adjusting my fitness plans on the fly daily (not my strong suit - I'm a big planner-routine girl) and it is just very simply working out beautifully!

I've caught a couple of outdoor walks (getting some sun as the days shorten is a good thing), but most importantly I have been getting in a fair bit of ST. I'll have to go back and count, but I'm pretty sure I've done ST 3 out of 4 days this week.

To keep things as simple as possible and take the thinking out of the equation, I've been accessing the substantial SP video library and I have to say I'm loving it! The workouts are short and varied....making it simple to add an extra 10 minute ab or arm workout onto the end of whatever 20 minute vid I did first....plus an extra stretching video or 2 after the fact. I'm also much more inclined to just 'slip in' a quick workout between tasks - it's as simple as setting my iPad up, choosing a workout and getting to it. Today, this meant nearly 40 minutes of exercise on a day when the schedule made it seem like there wasn't room for anything. Oh - I've also found lots of uses for the various bits of workout equipment I already have on hand. So I don't have to drive anywhere, buy anything or find and sign up for 'just the right class'...free, free and free. Cool or what?

Much to my surprise, I'm enjoying making a new choice daily, rather than checking off my planned workouts for the week - it's freshened things up nicely, and I know for a fact that my exercise regimen is much more well-rounded at the moment than it has been in months and months and months. I am finding weak bits all over! And more importantly, just a week of steady ST and I have less loose bits to pinch!

DH will be vacating his studio for part of the day tomorrow, so I might just sneak in for a solid cardio session, cuz despite everything I just wrote, I still do love me a good sweat-a-thon....but I've also been eyeing a yogalatis video since Monday....hmmmm....maybe I can make time for both? ;-)

The SP workout video library has become quite extensive and well rounded, for sure! emoticon emoticon

I am the opposite of a planner and love doing what I feel like doing each day (at home, work or in the gym) and I think that has helped me love working out, lo these many years!

I always work out at home and use the various "tools" I have to stop me getting bored - DVD's, Wii Fit, weights, internet videos, including Spark, etc. As you say, much easier (and cheaper) than going to the gym!

Glad you're enjoying your new plan!
