"New" Clothes! - and more NSV's!

Friday, October 26, 2012

My sis (who lives 90 min from me) called the other day. We hadn't seen each other in well over 6 months - i.e., before I got serious about getting healthier and losing weight. (Remember, I blogged about one of my NSV's is thinking about how surprised family members are going to be when they see me.)

Anyway, she called and asked if I'd like some size 10 jeans that she still has in her closet. Ummm....YEAH! She's also very slowly losing a little more weight, just trying to be wise about her foods and making sure she gets in some exercise each day. Frankly, I think she looks amazing where she is, but she wants to drop another 10-ish pounds. (I've never thought she looked "fat", but she did.)

Well, upshot, we met in the middle (about 45 min from here) for lunch and she brought the clothes she pulled from her closet. I am so freaking's a list of what she gave me:

1 - size 12 jeans (that fit PERFECTLY RIGHT NOW!)

3 - size 10 jeans in diff cuts (I can get them up, but that's about it...will take at least 5lbs before I can button them - but, I got them UP!)

1 - size M/L 3-pc pants set - lined wide-leg trousers with embroidered design, sleeveless black sweater shell with coordinating embellishment at the high scoop neck, black long-sleeve cardigan with matching embroidery (I can wear it all, even fasten the pants, but it's still too tight at the waist - but I can get IN ALL OF IT!)

1 - size 10 2-pc skirt/blouse set in black with tiny white polka-dots (it goes on easy, but it's a stretchy material, and I look a little like a sausage in it right now, but it's a 10! And I LOVE this set, it's adorable!)

1 - size Small cream silk shell (it's bigger than a small - I can get it on, but it's too tight just now to wear it comfortably)

1 - size Med pink gauzy wrap blouse (not keeping this, it's too "old" for me, besides which, I can't move my arms in it)

3 - Med-Lg Sweaters - 2 are eggplant, the other is a deep teal, and they FIT. What a concept! Wearing a sweater that fits my body instead of a huge, shapeless box of knitted material! The colors are wonderful for me, too! So glad my sis and I have similar coloring! :D

In the parking lot of the restaurant, she stopped dead when she saw me and said, "You look great!" Then, gave me a big hug! :)

That right there is a huge NSV!

Another came when I had to pull out my driver's license for something yesterday. I looked at the pic offhandedly and my jaw dropped. That pic was taken only 5 months and a week ago, and I remember being glad it was a good pic, the best DL pic I've ever taken. It's a different person looking out of that picture. Wow. The visual difference is very striking. Major NSV!!!!!!!

And another one...I get to see a good friend this weekend for the first time in months (he's the one who mapped out my 5K and is timing my Trick or Treat Trot race). He's not seen me since about a month after I joined SP, so I'm now nearly 20 pounds below the last time he saw me. I'm curious about what his reaction will be. (FYI, this is not a romantic thing, so don't go down that route.) To me, how people react are my biggest NSVs.

I'm having a very good day, and I also did an entire 5K on the treadmill tonight, varying walking and running speeds, good cardio workout. When I stop running (given previous injuries and current bursitis, I don't think it's good on my joints to run too much), I'm going to need ankle weights for walking to increase difficulty and stay in cardio zone. A great NSV is my cardio fitness improvement...way quicker than I expected, I can do so much more without giving out.

Okay, I need to shut up and get to bed!

Wow, these are great accomplishments - and way more rewarding than depending on the scale to "reward" you!

emoticon What great NSV's. Here's to many more on your journey to a healthier you. My greatest NSV is when I no longer had to shop in plus size. Right now I am a size 12 and still going down slowly. emoticon emoticon emoticon
