I have been in Oahu Honolulu, HI for a little over a week now. Unfortunately the project I joined is in bad shape so I have been super busy at work. I worked an avg of 13/hours a day last week and 6/hrs a day on the weekend. But even with all the time spent working this has been the opportunity of a lifetime and I feel so blessed and humbled to be here. I miss my kids and my girlfriend Korina a ton and it is hard being here alone for three weeks before I get to see them again. I just remind myself what an opportunity this is for all of us and try to stay focised on the tasks ahead of me but it does get tough sometimes.
Like I said this is definitely one of the best things to ever happen for me and my family and I am so excited about it. Outside of work it has been great there is beauty everywhere. I don't have a car here so i have been walking everywhere. I have slacked on some of my October goals I haven't been getting my pushups and squats in like I would have like because I have been working really late and in turn worn out when I get up. But I have been making it up with a ton of walking. I have easily eclipsed my 6 miles and am more like 12 miles a week here. My water intake has been good too so I am happy about that. It has been scary because I have been so busy I haven't tracked food and I don't have a scale here so it has been very hard not knowing how I am doing I won't until I get back home. But I am focusing on doing what I can and until work slows down some it is walking as much as I can. I feel liek I am doing ok but I don't know. Well I wanted to share what i have been able to see of the island with my spark friends. You guys mean a lot to me and if I hadn't found spark I don't know if I would have done all the other things I needed to to have this opportunity. So i wanted you all to enjoy it a little bit with me. So enough with the blabbering here are some pics!!!!
I have been so busy, a lot going on and I missed this blog. I think it is wonderful that you have had such a wonderful opportunity. What a beautiful state. I was to take my grandson there after he graduated from high school and I ended up with blood clots in my legs and one in my lung, I was very fortunate but we could not go at that time. I still have it on my Bucket List. Enjoy the beauty around you. All that walking is definitely going to pay off for you. I love your pictures. Stay safe. June 2165 days ago
Thank you for sharing the pictures; it may be the only way I ever see Hawaii!
You're putting in a lot of hours and doing a lot of walking, so I'm not sure how much you should be worrying about how you're doing. The other part of that is that the whole focus of this program is to put us in a position where we, because of a change in lifestyle, are able to make the good decision on a regular basis. The scale is but a part of the story (I need to remember that); daily decisions about food become more and more ingrained as we "practice". At any rate, know that we are here to support and encourage you...you're doing GREAT!!
Enjoy your time in Hawaii. I know that you miss your family...take advantage of the beautiful scenery surrounding you as you walk through this opportunity for you and your family.
Chris ~ I'm so jealous because I've always wanted to go to Hawaii. No, I'm just kidding, I'm so glad that you have gotten this opportunity for you and the family. I know that you have developed some good habits as result of you being apart of this Spark community that would not get away from you in just a matter of a few weeks.
Just keep moving (walking) and I know that everything will balance itself out.
Thank you for taking time out from your busy schedule to post. I'm sure the habits you've gained since coming on Spark will see you through. P.S. - a lot of people would kill to have to wear shirts like that to work - no jacket, no tie... how cool is that? 2184 days ago
I think you'll do fine, with the water intake and the walking (and maybe a little jogging, perhaps?). If you avoid the common pitfalls (anything fried, coconut and macadamias), you know what you have to do. Enjoy your time, don't stress overmuch about your weight, you'll do great.
Dang brother, you've already got a nice dark tan!! Nice pics, but of course they don't do the natural colors justice. Keep up the water intake and the walking and you should be fine, as long as you avoid the pina coladas and the luau dinners!
I am not sure the pic does you any justice in the Hawaiian shirt beacuse when you tried them on honestly I thought they would look silly, but you're the only person I've EVER met that can pull it off and look so handsome!!! :) xxoxoooo 2186 days ago
Oh my gosh! Just breathtaking! Do you stop in your tracks every once in a while and your jaw drops in awe of what your eyes are seeing?
I imagine it is tough without your loved ones, though. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. (o: You're wise to try and enjoy what you can while you're there - like you said, quite an opportunity. I DO hope the work settles down a little bit so you an enjoy it a little more.
Keep on doing the best you can with one good decision after another. In a way - living without tracking and a scale must be a little liberating! You've done this long enough, you know if you're making good choice or not. You'll be fine!
I'm so excited for you about this opportunity and I can't wait to see how things work out for you, your family, and Korina. Those pictures are beautiful and I'm glad you're able to enjoy yourself when not at work.
But Chris... that last picture had me almost spewing the mouthful of water I had just taken!!! (Because your blog also reminded me to pick up my water glass. THANKS!) Seriously, that's your work shirt? You are rocking that shirt, sir. I'm serious... like, actually pulling it off! But two things about that picture cracked me up. One, that you HAVE to wear it. And two, that sideways look on your face like "what the he-- am I doing in this thing!?" SO FUNNY. 2186 days ago
I lived on O'ahu for two years (Pearl City). Sooo many opportunities for wonderful outdoor activities. If you like hiking pick up the book, The Hiker's Guide to O'ahu. It's fantastic. I live on the East Coast now, but my copy is dog-eared and gets packed whenever I make a return trip to the islands.
PS-Great shirt! Enjoy Aloha Fridays while you can! 2186 days ago
THOMS1 I have a second cousin who is very lucky to live on the island that you are working on now. Her and her boyfriend acutally got married in April on the water in their Kayaks. Enjoy being there and I really like the shirt. Looks great on you. 2186 days ago
What an opportunity of a lifetime!! I am sure you miss family, but I bet they will enjoy your picture of Hawaii. I love the shirts, you can not go wrong with all the walking and water. Enjoy 2186 days ago
What a great opportunity for you to get to travel to Hawaii for work! I have been crossing my fingers for work at Hickam, but no luck so far! I hope you get a little bit more down time so you can have a little bit more time to yourself there- your pictures are beautiful though! 2186 days ago
Thank you for sharing your pictures! Truly a beautiful place! Walking is an excellent workout, you're doing great and you look good! Enjoy yourself as much as possible, before you know it, you'll see your family soon! 2186 days ago
I sure would love to look out my window and see the ocean! I am a bit jealous. Umm okay I am a lot jealous! Glad to hear that you are doing well and that your work is going well. I bet that when you get home and check your progress, you will find that you are doing really well! Keep up that walking!!!
