A walk in the woods.

I've been reading for the the 4th time-Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods. This is a story about 2, rather out of shape men, who walk the Applachian Trail. It is funny, touching and inspiring. They seem to have just decided one morning to walk the entire AT.
I spent the weekend in Hocking Hills, Ohio. My friends and I rented a cabin and took several walks in the woods. While it's not the AT, it's a beautiful area to hike. Even though the wearther was rainy and overcast, the trees were beautiful. The air was fresh. We walked though an area of piney woods that seemed like walking in Christmas. Every step released a fresh pine scent-
With the new knees (which are becoming stronger everyday!) I know I must add a regular hiking to my exercise routine. This was good for my soul. I just never feel that way after a workout at the gym.
I left the woods feeling so grateful for having such wonderful friends-who don't mind roughing it a bit ( 6 hours Friday night, we had no power which meant no water pump for toilets and no water or lights.. We did have a fireplace- and proceeded to laugh and carry on!)
And grateful for having friends who like walking in the woods even with less than ideal condidtions.
Have a wonderful week!
