Blog#4 Start making your own happiness a priority
I have come from a background where my happiness was not often considered as I was growing up. Not abused but sort of overlooked. An adopted child with much older brothers and sister my adopted mother died when I was 14 and I felt very lonely thereafter.
I have over the years learned that one can discover their own moments of joy.
I am realizing more and more what it is that I need to make me happy. I now know that it has little to do with material things and a lot to do with spiritual progress.
Today I spent time with my grandchildren. They are 16 yrs,, 13 yrs and 9 yrs. old. We went out to Subway for lunch and then we went to one of the bigger malls in the city to do some shopping. I very seldom go to this mall but the eldest one suggested it and because I love them so much I was happy to take them there.
We spent the whole afternoon shopping and walking (it is such a big mall). I finally ended up with a pair of NIke running shoes, which the 13 year old helped me pick out. I bought them at Sears on sale for $89.99 with 30% off and then I got a scratch card which gave me another 15% off. Woo Hoo!
My eldest grandson (he is 16 yrs. ) bought himself a snowboard at Sportchek. It was so encouraging to see him take responsibility for acquiring some of his desires with his own money (he works at Tim Hortons) and he had been saving up to buy this board. It was on sale so he decided that it was the best time to buy it. It cost quite a bit more than my purchase, but you could see that he was very pleased with his purchase.
As I drove them home, I could see that they were happy with their outing with Grandma. I made me very happy.
This weekend I will be going to Whistler with a girlfriend. We will be staying at a timeshare. This will be a time of total relaxation and meditation. We will take in the sights and sounds of this beautiful ski village which we live so close to but so seldom visit.
Doing what is best for me at any particular time and learning to enjoy the better things in life, physically, emotionally, spiritually. Have a great week. I will blog tomorrow and than take a break until Wednesday.
Just do it!
