Terrifying Broad-Daylight Run

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

This morning I fought to do 2 miles and I did it, but it was daylight and it was terrifying! I was a teenager all over again, mortified by the imaginary audience of cars going by and drivers watching my post-partum abs go every which way. I obsessed about it the whole way, and since my house is less than a block away from a busy intersection, I got to freak out at the end of my run because there were several cars sitting at the intersection waiting for me to cross! I felt like Angus in that movie when his boxers got flown from the flagpole, and all he could see was these GIGANTIC boxers that were bigger than the flag, blowing in the wind. Ugh. Sometimes, being a teenager blows. In a way, I'm glad those days are long behind me!

My food is holding steady, but I had 2 Tootsie Rolls while I was cooking dinner yesterday. My weight is also holding steady, but I'm hoping for a loss tomorrow! For now though, I have to jump in the shower and get ready for school. Have a great day.

When I see someone who isn't super-skinny and running, I always have a little cheer for them (whether I say it out loud or not). I think it's awesome and you're letting the world know that you don't have to be super-thin and perky to be fit. Keep it up! You rock!

    Only two? Awesome!

You know, every person you passed has their own worries, and so on.

In the grand scheme of things, their reaction or not does not matter. It is you working on your wellness that matters.

BTW, tootise minis are all of 11 calories each.

Not much, but can be a problem if they trigger a sugar binge, as they do to me.

Sorry you held those thoughts in your mind as you were taking the steps to be healthy and strong. Remember, there are a lot of people who don't even see you because they are absorbed in their own thoughts and going about their own lives. And there are many of us who are impressed and congratulating people who are out of shape and working out ~ outside and in the gym. I think it would be the minority who would see you and be critical, and they are jerks, so who cares?

You don't have any control over what other people think, but you do have control over what YOU think. When negative thoughts are circling through your brain, replace them with positive.

"How cool am I to be out here doing this!"
    "I am beautiful!"
