I love 'em and loathe 'em

I have been addicted to prescription pain pills for a few years now. I do have pain in my back from an injury years ago but I know I can deal with it with over the counter stuff. But pain pills make me feel more than no pain, gives me energy to work out and do the things I need to do, makes me happy. When I stop taking them it takes a couple of days to a week to get over the withdrawls. It would have been 1 day today, but I slipped and had one pill today. Hey look at the bright side, at least I didn't have my usually 6-9 pills. Tomorrow is a new day and with God's help be the day I stop the pain killers for good.

Good luck breaking free of those pills! Any addiction is tough, and I commend you for making your statement and focusing on the long-term. One is definitely better than 6-9! When I quit smoking I found that I needed to just go immediately to zero or I would never stop. But everyone must find their own path...I know that cold turkey doesn't work for a lot of people, and can even be dangerous when dealing with pills. Have you asked a doctor for help getting off of them?

I think the important thing is that you have this desire to stop taking them, and you have begun actively trying to limit the amount that you take. I have not been addicted to medicine but I did quit smoking 2 years ago. I started by only smoking 3 cigs a day instead of 12. It wasn't perfect since I still smoked but I wanted to "prepare" myself for actually stopping completely. Don't give up!

Praying for you and wishing you the best of luck. I have never been addicted to anything(other than food, lol) but I have seen several people who have and they really went through a struggle. Some had success others didn't but the ones who did depended on God. Although I can't say I know how you feel I do know He can bring you through this. God bless you! emoticon

Way to go on wanting to try new means. You may want to wea off then, depending on what they are. Certain drugs, like hydrocodone can cause flu like symptons for a couple of weeks in some people. Be careful and know that the lack of energy is only a temporary phase of detox your body goes through. Been there and know it can be hard my friend.

Sorry you are stuck on pain pills my son is going threw this. My pain medicine doesn't relieve the pain fully and I have no energy from the pain and lack of sleep. But I see your point if they give you energy it would be hard to let go. Take one day at a time and I will pray for you and my son since this has become an addiction for you. I guess i am glad I didn't get those kinds of pain meds. I went to OA and AA for eating and they are great programs when one is addicted. Really good luck with this
