Sickness brings out the motivation to work out :)

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

So Darling Son and I have been passing the same cold back and forth for about two months now. Since I'm still nursing I can't take anything stronger than cough medicine, which helps almost not at all. Somehow when I'm sick I get incredibly motivated to work out. Maybe I just need to "burn off" this stupid cold?

Sunday I did Tae Bo Ab Bootcamp, which felt great ... until Monday's coughing fit which really abused my poor intercostals and upper abs! If I can stand it, I'm going to try the Lower Body Bootcamp tonight. I really miss Taw Bo. I always felt so strong doing it.

There's something to be said for "sweating it out". Unless you are so wiped that you don't want to leave the bed, a *short* workout can really help clear out everything, especially if you work up a good sweat.

Otherwise, safe for breastfeeding cold help:
Hot cloth across the face (to clear out sinuses)
Sitting in the bathroom while someone else is showering (hot humid air)
Hot showers (help clear out sinuses and lungs)
Ginger tea (1 slice of fresh ginger, 1/2 tsp honey, a squeeze of lemon and hot water)
Ricola lozenges (if you look, you can find ones with minimal sugar but no aspertame and they REALLY help with coughing)

    Good luck and good health!
