Size perception/distortio

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Last Monday (the 1st) I ordered a belt on-line because of how baggy some of my work pants had gotten. I followed the sizing instructions on the website and ordered based on that (I don't wear leather and finding good quality non-leather belts in your average department store is hard, hence the on-line order, though there's the obvious downside of not being able to try it on before purchase). It arrived yesterday, and when I opened the package and saw it, I thought, "Gosh, that looks pretty small," and left all the packaging out, thinking I might have to do an exchange. However, when I put it on this morning, I had to take it all the way to the last notch! My partner said he can make more notches on it so I can continue to use it in the future, so I am not too worried about the useability factor. It was a reminder, though, that I am not nearly as big as I think I am, and that my perception of my size can be skewed by what size I used to be.

It's great to have this belt now and not have to be tugging at my pants or keeping my hands in my pockets to prevent them from falling down!
