Day 286

Saturday, October 06, 2012

Had a scare this morning when our beloved old Oz (German Shepherd) who is 11 y/o went off his food. It's the 1st time in his LIFE that he wouldn't eat breakfast. He's very food driven, so this told us he was really sick. He's been failing more & more in the past several weeks but this was a real cause for concern. Finally later in the day he began to perk up a bit. I haven't said anything to DH, but so hope it's not just a 'rally' before we'll be faced with our final good-byes. Hopefully he was just having a very bad morning and will be with us a bit longer. I know it's coming, but am never ready for that last day. I've had a dog every day of my life - 61+ years of it and my dogs have always been a HUGE part of my life. He's my walking buddy, my constant companion and best friend. A very real part of the family...not 'just a dog'. He sleeps next to my side of the bed and has never spent a night outside in a dog house in his life. He's a dog I rescued from a shelter when he was a just a little puppy so many years ago. We've had a beautiful life together with him....so I'm just trying my best to prepare for 'the day' which I know isn't far off. Week(s) I believe, not months. And....I'm thankful for each & every moment I've spent with Oz, he is such a great gift from God.

Did the big hill this morning, then the rest of the cardio walking. 8.53 miles today. Did a strength training session this evening - core; lower body. Ran a bunch of errands, went to Sam's Club & WalMart to get a few groceries. Got some nice fruit & veggies. Bought a pineapple and we'll try it on the grill!!! I've never had grilled pineapple so it'll be interesting.

Had boneless, skinless chicken breasts on the grill with sliced sweet potatoes on the grill too. A side of corn on the cob that we put up in the freezer this summer. That was good too!

Thanks for stopping by today if you had time. Hope your Saturday was great and that you were able to get outside to enjoy the beautiful fall weather!! emoticon

P.S. Talk about LUCK ~ Guess what the wheel did for me today?? 20 pts. on the initial spin - then 20 MORE pts. on the bonus spin!!! That has NEVER happened before!!!!! Wow!

So sorry about Oz feeling bad. I'm like you...but I mostly had 2 or more dogs at a time and the last few years it's been one, and even that's lonely. Hope he's better soon. Be blessed
