My Thoughts on Carbs

Carbs have taken a bad rap lately with so many people going on diets where they don't eat any. Every time I read that someone is doing that I think back on where I read here on Spark People once that the brain needs carbs to function. But I didn't catch how much.

I know that I am a person who eats way to much carbs in my day. I eat carbs for breakfast, lunch, dinner and my 3 snacks. I know that I eat to much and am going to do some thing about it starting this month. I am going to start by eating chips only once a week instead of three or four times a day. I am going to eat more protein for my snacks and more whole wheat when I do eat carbs.

I am going to eat healthier to improve my health. I am going to read more nutrition articles every day and learn as much as I can and use it to eat better. I have been slacking off lately and only paying attention to how many calories I eat each day but I need to pay attention to other things too. On my daily report I can see what I am lacking and make improvements on what I eat. There is no excuse for me eating unhealthy foods every day. I am trying to make improvements in my life. It is time I made these changes.

    Good for you! I have had to consciously cut back on carbs, too, which is not easy because I LOVE bread! I try to get most of my carb allotment from whole grains and fruits. I do still have a bit of a Dr. Pepper addiction, and I know that is 150 empty calories a day. Someday that is going to have to go, but I'm trying to make gradual changes. emoticon

    You can do it and so can I! I do eat a lot of good carbs! Brown rice, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta and whole grain tortillas it is the other things like pizza crust,I love pizza. I will just have to cut back and have it occasionally and not every week even frozen pizza is going to have to be a sacrifice. I am crying inside but I can do this and you can too!! emoticon bye bye pizza! emoticon

    it's all about balance...see what SP has on your tracker and stick with whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, the less process the better....

    They give you a carb range on the spark tracker. I can usually stay in the range and still enjoy myself

    Carbs are the only way to feed the brain. I have seen too many bad things come from low/no carb diets. We need them to fuel the body. They are even essential in transporting fats and proteins into needed areas of the body. Yes some people get too many, I used to be one of them. After I adopted the SP model I stopped being so hungry and started real weight loss. I even crave sweets a lot less. It really works.

    When you are burning calories the first thing the body uses first is carbs. They provide energy. You need protein consumption to gain muscle mass,you need fats too.. Low carbs are alright,but some people go overboard with the carb thing. The right kinds of carbs need to be comsumed.
    Educating your self and trail and error and It all balances out.
