Vacation Time

Friday, October 05, 2012

Next Monday is Canada's Thanksgiving holiday. But more than that, I am off for the entire week.

I need it.

I am planning on going to Elora Gorge on Tuesday with a friend, for some hiking, as long as the weather cooperates. I am also hoping to go up to Hamilton one afternoon to visit another friend, who is recovering from surgery. The rest of the time, I plan on doing some major housecleaning (including cleaning out the spare room, and putting it back in some kind of actual order!), getting a bunch of paperwork and phonecalls and emails done for CAiNE, walking, and reading. Also tea. Lots of tea.

I really enjoy my vacations away when I have them. I love going new places and seeing new people. But I also need to spend time at home. Not just to get things done, but to appreciate the space I've built for myself (as much as one can in an apartment). Some weeks it feels like my place is a mere stopping point for food, clothes, and a bed - and some days not even that. I get disconnected from where I live, and its stressful. I need to reconnect.

As for this week:

1/ Managing to get in loads of activity this week, from walking to Zumba to strength training every morning (different muscle group each time).

2/ Surprise visit on Wednesday with friends - I hadn't planned on it, but we spontaneously met up and went for a nice long amble in Guelph along the Speed River and downtown.

3/ Good Dr's visit this week - he's pleased with my weight loss, we are in agreement on my end weight goal (150 lbs), he's REALLY pleased with my blood sugar, and I even got a perscription for my toenail fungus so maybe it will go away and leave me alone!!

4/ Parents are home from their vacation and all is well in the world that way. They had a good time, and they're home safe. Plus they brought me back a historical cookbook and some Aunt Leah's Chocolate Mint Fudge. =D

5/ New Castle! Okay, it started last week, but I watch it with my parents and they are home now so we watched the two episodes of the new season last night, and I am pleased.

6/ Vacation starts tonight! Happy Panda Dance!!
