On the Road to Health with a Naturopathic Doctor

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

So I have been dealing with numerous health issues for the past 4 months. Primarily nausea and a very decreased appetite. Also some muscle pain in my abdomen from spending so much time in bed and on the couch.

I have been diagnosed with Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. luckily I have no inflammation or permanent damage yet. My doctor has advised losing weight and eating a healthy diet. Since I first got sick, when I'm able to eat, I have been eating much healthier. Though I still do not get in enough fruits and veggies.

Basically I have to lose weight lol, then I have to go back in and get some more blood work to check my liver function. I have already lost 80 lbs in the last 4 months. Though I have been unable to exercise due to the recurring nausea and the abdominal pain.

The abdominal pain I suspect is the muscles, it feels that way anyway lol. I have been seeing a chiropractor who specializes in sports injuries and he basically massages my abs. It's very awkward and uncomfortable but I think it's helping the pain. I have more of an appetite after visits to him, and I think the abdominal muscle pain is affecting my appetite lol. As I said it feels more like its the muscles and not my internal organs or stomach or w/e but the fact that I have pain in that general area is a problem.

I have recently decided to see a naturopathic doctor for the nausea. So far I have seen him only once and he wants a diary of foods and my mood and energy levels and how often the nausea occurs and whatnot. I am doing this because I am a strong believer in alternative medicine and because all the tests I had with my doctor were clean, other than the fatty liver, which doesn't normally cause nausea.

I will post blogs each time I see the naturopathic doctor as it's a very interesting experience for me, I've never seen one before ^_^ and I think maybe some other people will be interested as well.

My first visit was just a lot of questions about my lifestyle and then he tried to use an acupuncture needle in some knots on my shoulder. He was having some trouble I guess as he said we'll do it next time. But I was nervous for my first time, I've never done acupuncture either. I didn't even feel when he inserted the needle lol. He showed it to me first and it was so tiny I didn't imagine I would feel much lol.

I think my next visit, in 2 weeks, will be much more interesting as he will be looking over test results from my GP and going over all my stuff and deciding on a treatment plan which we will go over on that visit. He won't see my food diary until then but I imagine he will just counsel me on what I've done wrong lol. The most unusual thing on that diary, in my opinion, is that he wants details on my bowel movements lol. Like color, consistency and odor lol. I know its important but my doctors have never asked for that much detail on my bowel movements before lol.

So in 2 weeks I will post another blog and let everyone know how my second visit went ^_^

I had my first Naturopath visit a month ago. She had me do a urine analysis to test for toxins. She always does this first as we all accumulate toxins from our environment, food, air, water, etc. I go back next week. Will be interesting to compare notes!

Good luck with your treatment plan. Any time you can cure withou drugs, it's a good thing!
