switching up fitness

Monday, October 01, 2012

So Sparkcoach wants me to write about how I change up my fitness.
Strength training is easy for me at this point -- I'm doing Tracy Anderson and so every 10 days it changes.
Cardio. . . I try to walk as often as I can, and occassionally make it to the gym to do the elliptical (which I find difficult to do unless I have a bunch of songs I really want to listen to). I know I can def change up on cardio.. sometimes I'll do boxing on the Wii (gold's gym cardio workout) so I know i have options.. I just have to DO it. Things have been stressful at work so I don't always get my cardio in. I need to work on that.
Soooo that's what I've got.
Now to start another day of work.. woo!

I too have a stressful job. I can relate to what you are going through. My boss' attitude makes it more stressful than it needs to be, so it is double stressful. I love the stompin all over the work stress when doing cardio too. I am going to try that next work out for sure.

I have enrolled in Spark Coatch I am going to have to start using it. I get home from work, make dinner and I am just mentally exhausted - - I don't want to do anything. I have to get out of this mindset... I have even noticed I haven't been on Spark as much lately.

Indeed -- if things get really stressful at work, I will sometimes leave and go for a walk and I use that energy to get the heck up that giant hill (grr stupid giant hill); but that's if I'm able to. Other than that I just try to keep calm and eat a little dark chocolate here and there (not often ... usually I don't keep much on hand, so that's good)
Thanks for all of your advice and support everyone!

I love Mallory's comment! Stomping all over work stress with each cardio step, is a FABULOUS idea! Congratulations on all your changes Emi! You are doing emoticon and you WILL reach your goals.

try using the stress of work to your advantage: when you're feeling like work is going to take over your brain and cause it to explode, think about how you can work out that stress when you get home! if you do dance cardio, pretend your troubles are on the floor and with every jump, when you land, you're just crushing them and making them smaller. you know what you need to do and i know that you CAN.

I think it makes exercising more interesting to switch it up ... I mainly do cardio at the gym and although the ellipitical has been my machine of choice, I alternate times with that, the cybex arc trainer, and the bike. I think getting your heart rate where it needs to be and getting at least 30 mins in 4-5 times per week is what I'm really striving to do.
