Day 323 Tweaking your timetable is not compromising OR failing OR giving up!

Sunday, September 30, 2012

In September I achieved some goals and didn't others. Last week I wrote out a timetable for my fitness minutes, to make up 350 minutes a week. It didn't work. I was exhausted by the 3rd day and was beginning to hate the couch to 10k, and not want to go swimming. For a few days I kicked myself for failing, then got my head back into gear. Learning something isn't failing. It's learning something. I learnt I had to easy back not on my minutes but on the intensity of what I was doing. Thanks all of you who cheered me on.

So for now the couch to 10k is on hold. The committed swims are pulled back to my 1 hour lesson, and one lap swim on Saturday nights. The rest of the time is strength work and physical play of some kind with Crusoe, and walks. For example I played in the local pool for an hour with Crusoe yesterday. I made sure when I was in the deep end I 'ran' and when in the shallow end we played tag. We were always moving.

I still feel active. Still losing weight and size, and daily have more energy. I will certainly increase my intensity as I get fitter. I feel it's more sustainable. And sustainable is what I want. I'll re-evaluate at the end of the Fall Challenge.

Sometimes we just have to reevaluated and tweak until we find what makes us commit better. If you are not enjoying it, if it is too hard, boring, won't do it for long.

I love that you are going swimming and playing with your boy in the water. I miss having a pool...ours has structural damage and has been drained. Looks so sad. Too expensive to fix right now. So I will read about your swims and enjoy it vicariously.

You are so right. You learned something about yourself and your body so there was no failure involved. Let's get October under control and own it before it's over!
