Enjoying Family

Sunday, September 30, 2012

I joined SparkPeople expecting to start my weight loss journey. But I have discovered that is only the beginning of the changes in my life. Taking my husbands dog for a walk has helped the dog and I bond. Taser has been going with us for our walks and is enjoying himself. Usually before the walk is over my husband even shows up. It is so fun having us all together. My husband was sick for around 2-1/2 years during which time he really did not feel like spending much time with us. When he started getting better he felt left out because Taser and I had build our own lives that did not include him. So now everything is getting easier for us as a family.

During the time that my husband was sick I was working one job part time and got a second job offer. The second job was a part time job as a teachers aide at my sons school. So during that time I was trying to work at the school during the day and work the other job MWF and Saturday. Saturday after I got off work I would take my mother-in-law to our hair appointments. During my free time I was trying to study for the 45 hours worth of test I had to pass to keep my job at the school. I kept telling myself that after I passed all of my test things would get easier. Before long the part time job at the school turned into a full time job. I was run ragged. My mother-in-law asked us to come live with her to help keep her out of a nursing home. My husband and I had already been taking turns spending the night with her on weekends so in some ways it seemed like it would make my life easier. Then I started having problems and it was to much to take care of the kids at school so I had to quit the school. During my last two weeks the doctor put me on total rest. The schools response was to work me twice as hard during my remaining week.

After seeing the doctor I was forced to go on a diet. So I had been looking for a diet that would work for me. I can say that living with my family is making the whole ideal of dieting a lot more difficult. I married into a family that believes in going out to eat for every meal. The places that they go eat does not offer nutritional information on their meals. So it is really difficult to even begin inputing the nutritional facts for most of the meals that I eat out. Luckily they have reduced the amount of times we go out to eat by at least one time per day so that helps some.

Now that you have some insight into my life I can say that SparkPeople has done a lot for me. Whether or not I lose a pound I have had the chance to start enjoying my life again. I am going on nature walks, running in the swimming pool, and training for the 5K run all of which I am doing.

All of the doctors are in agreement that there is probably a lot more wrong with my body then we have discovered. They want me to go for an additional MRI and to a neurologist. But I can happily say that what ever maybe wrong with my body I am happier than I have been in years.
