Stress Eating

Friday, September 28, 2012

I continue to be challenged with Stress Eating. I have had some major stresses both at work & at home. The cycle is: for a while, I think I'm handling it well, then a switch flips inside me and I am constantly hungry. Unfortunately, I am in the middle of this for the millionth time. This may be the case where "it's not what I'm eating, it's what's eating me."

I truly am concerned because I have 12 year old twin daughters (b-day this past Tuesday), and I am 55. I am worried that my health will deteriorate due to weight related issues and I won't be the mother they deserve.

Sometimes, I think if I plan better, then maybe I can work through this. But I've come to the conclusion, it is more than planning. I need to come to terms with my emotional attachment to food that seems the worst when I am under stress.

It seems when I am stressed and have little time, I let my spiritual life suffer. That is a foundation that I need. I'm trying to remember who said this, maybe it was Rev. Ed Bacon, it was something like, "I'm going to have a really busy day, I better pray a little more." I believe the lesson for me is to turn to God & prayer more when I get stressed, instead of less because I think I don't have enough time.

I better go pray now!

Wow, I love all your comments. They are so helpful, lots of great ideas. I need to enlist the help of my kids (including my 25 yo son). I'm going to the grocery store this morning & I will pick up some sugar free popsicles. I don't bring unhealthy food into the house, for the most part, but portion control of the healthy food can be a problem for me. I love the point that prayer & meditation changes me. {{{Hugs}}} to all who are struggling with stress eating and thanks to everyone for offering your perspective & suggestions. Blessings, Debra emoticon

You had your daughters at the same age I had my son. As an "older" mom, sometimes we take things differently and we metabolize differently. Maybe you can get your girls to work with you and have all the right things in your home. I have the same issues, you are not alone!!

You should probably keep healthy snacks ready for when you have these periods of weakness. Your daughters don;t need junk around the house. My favorite go to snack when I am stressed is sugar-free popsicles. It takes a while to eat and gives your stressed brain a chance to reprogram and remember, with God, all things are possible.

I'll be 55 in a few days. Maybe that's why we're rebelling? I don't know about you, but we were taught food fixes things. Those are hard things to de-program in our minds.

Let's see just how terrific we can make October. (((hugs))) and understanding. -Bri

Together we can move mountains if we give ourselves permission.

That's a good lesson for me too. Pray harder! I'm struggling with stress eating today as the PMS symptoms are here and I'm thankful at least I know the source of it all for this time. We can do it!

Prayer sometimes changes things, but it always changes us.
