Having a baby is worth the weight!

I had my first child on July 23, 2012. I love him more than words can express. I did not enjoy being pregnant at all. It was not what I expected. The last few weeks of being pregnant at my weekly visits to the doctor I kept hoping he would tell me it's time, but that never happened. He finally scheduled me to get induced and I was so excited. But then labor did not go how I thought or how the doctor or nurses thought either. I was given a gel to thin my cervix before I was started on Pitocin. I was given this gel at around 8:00 pm on July 22. The nurse told me nothing would probably happen until the following morning & I should deliver sometime in the evening on July 23. But the gel is all I needed. It sent me into labor and I delivered at 5:24 am on July 23. Everyone said you'll be in labor for hours since it's your first child. I had my first contraction around 10:00 pm. I was in labor for less than 8 hours. It happened so fast I didn't even get an epidural. When my son was born he had holes in his lungs so he was in the high risk nursery for a week. This was unexpected also. Every doctors visit, every ultrasound indicated that he was perfectly healthy. Then because labor went so fast I had some major issues as well. But we finally got home and got settled. Breast feeding was going really well and I expected the weight to just fall off. Well that was unexpected also. Everyone told me the weight would fall off if you're breast feeding. I have had some days when I have been so depressed that the weight wasn't coming off, but my son will smile at me or coo at me and I think it doesn't matter. I'm not saying I don't want to lose the weight. I do. But life has much more meaning that it used to. I have a whole other person to take care of and love. I have lost 21 pounds so far, so I know it will come off. But being the skinny person I used to be doesn't mean as much to me anymore. Notice I said "skinny", now my goal is to be healthy for my son. So as he grows up I can keep up with him and be there for all of the important parts of his life. I'm not losing the weight to be skinny and look great, although that is one of the perks, I'm losing the weight to be an example to my son. To show him that I have self control and I'm consistent and as I eat healthy and live a healthy lifestyle I can pass those life lessons on to him.
