..and happily, thanks to my incredible Sparkfriends, I have reached a conclusion..

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Thanks to everyone who responded to my Sunday blog for all your thoughtful and helpful comments and for sharing your observations and opinions! I think this was a real "sit down and think long and hard" moment for me. I think after reading the comments that the one thing I'd add to what I said in the original blog is that my quest to lose the weight is really centered around wanting to stay healthy.. Though looking good is not completely unimportant to me, it's really about the health.. and the hope that with the health I will be able to keep up with my busy, busy 10 year old and be around for a long time to watch him grow and flourish.

So, as I ask myself, "how far am I willing to go?," I come back to what I have known all along. I am willing to go as far as I need to to make it happen. BUT, until I positively, absolutely commit to the "moderation" approach and live it to the fullest extent, then I don't need to consider the more extreme alternatives. What I need to do is to follow the program of eating a balanced diet of 1500 to 1800 calories a day and getting at least 30 minutes of cardio in every day and another 3 days of some kind of strength training consistently. I can't say this approach is a failure until I do it for more than a day, a week, a month at a time. I can say that the last time I actually did do this for an extended period, several years ago, I did lose weight. But then I stopped. So now, I must start.

Sometimes I think it's just easier to look around at all these "approaches" and mull them over than to JUST DO IT. Gotta take my own advice, though..

Thanks to everyone for helping me figure this one out! Love to each and every one of you!!

    Hey T...
I... late to the party again missed part A until partB was written. And I couldn't agree with your conclusions more, both about your friend and more impoetantly yourself.

No grains at all! Sheesh. I have a friend with celiac disease. What she wouldn't give to be able to partake of all the world of food has to offer. She is unable to eat what her family does and sometimes feels isolated and somtimes like a burden as her friends try to find things she can enjoy with is.

As to what you are willing to do. That is for you to decide my dear friend. You have mentioned every thing that popped into my own mind inregard to myself and my recent return to spark land.

You know I am with you and I know you will come to whats best for the total you.

I know it is hard sometimes to fit the exercise into our lives. But you can fit it in with family time with your son, bike riding, walks and such. I keep on being surprised that my son even at 15 will go for a bike ride/walk with me.

Sounds like you've done some soul searching and are on the right path. Congrats! We all have to do that periodically - we need reminders as we get off course over time. You are worth it and what a great example for your 10 year old!!!
