Last 20 Pounds Plus Getting Ready for New Baby!

Monday, September 24, 2012

Now that I am 20 pounds away from my goal my SO and I are thinking about trying for our second child. I want to wait until I lose the last 20 so that I am at a healthy starting weight for conception as well as pregnancy and labor. I was at 170 when I got pregnant with my first and I had a perfect pregnancy/ delivery except for low blood sugar in the afternoons(primarily because my protein intake was too low). I would like to be at that weight for the second so that it will be just as easy.

Not to mention how hard I have worked to lose all the weight I gained after baby, and the fear of putting it back on. The difference now is that I know what caused the weight gain, and what I have to do to prevent it. Our OBGYN also said that all I need to do once we concieve is up my calories by 300, so that if my body is used to 1200 calories a day I should give it 1500 for the baby. No more, no less, and there is nothing wrong with counting calories and working out while pregnant.

I came from a family where you sat around and ate whatever you wanted for two and exercise was forbidden while pregnant because it can cause preterm labor..and I followed this while pregnant and paid for it. I gained an extra 40 pounds! This time my goal will be only for 20 pound gain while pregnant, most of which is lost directly after birth. Then all I will need to do is tone to put things back in place.

While I would prefer to wait a few more months and lose the last 20 I am also not going to do anything to prevent the pregnancy because we have a certain age gap between the children we would like to maintain. I will continue to work at my weight loss goal until I am actually pregnant so that I can be closer to a healthy weight. Who knows maybe the first trimester will help in the weight loss.. I know with the first one I lost 15 pounds lol!
