Saying No

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Today was potluck.
My husband helped me with the cooking between last night, and this morning.
I made "American Chop Suey" - which is actually macaroni, tomato soup, plain tomato sauce, and cooked ground turkey.
And I made my 7 layer salad - lettuce layered with chopped celery, baby green peas, miracle whip and sour cream and topped with grated cheddar cheese and I cooked and crumbled 5 slices of low sodium bacon as a garnish on top.
I did not have any salad left to bring home afterwards, and only have enough of the pasta dish for our dinner tomorrow night. Yay!

I did not heap my plate, and ate sensibly. I ate some dessert, but was pretty sensible with that, as compared to past such events where I get drawn in so easy - one peanut butter blossom cookie - small, a small square of homemade cake, a tablespoon of an ambrosia made with no-sugar jello, cottage cheese, pineapple and mandarin oranges.

It was a good day, and I got to see two people at church services I haven't seen in a while. One of them it has been over 3 years!

Now - my chair beckons and is calling me to nap. Peaches the cat kind of looked at me like he expected me to bend too. I am heading that way. Work tomorrow. Need to rest up for the week.

Good thoughts and prayers, and working at positive thinking, and moving, and eating sensibly. One day at a time.

I kind of cheat with pot lucks. I take the food i will be eating, it is usually salad or fruit salad, That way I know exactly what I am eating and it makes life easy. No worries about what I will be eating.
Have a great week DEBORAH I hope your work is doing fine for you.
    Pat in Maine.

It's so hard to guess at calories at a potluck, everyone cooks differently. I usually lean hard on the dishes I bring and then just sample a few of the other things. I still have a hard time getting people to eat my turkey meatloaf. My family just LOVES it, but other people think it's the wrong color and maybe undercooked. I've even tried putting a sign on it and it still doesn't click with people. Oh well, more for me, LOL. Glad the potluck went well for you... Debby
