This past weekend was just crazy. It was a gaming weekend, two LARPs in two days, both in Toronto. So I arranged with friends ahead of time to spend the night, to reduce the commute. So that helped. But the city of Toronto closed down the Gardiner, and I am so glad I decided to go into the city early - it meant that I wasn't late. Traffic was horrible! Of course, I hadn't really thought too much about food plans, which was a bad idea. Plan ahead! And I forgot. So my eating choices ended up rather limited and unhealthy, though I did as best I could with my options. Veggie omelete instead of pancakes, pack up half the soup from dinner for lunch today, chose to eat soup at the Chinese place rather than, say, the Kung Pao chicken or the noodles. So while it wasn't great, it could have been worse. Sleeping didn't really happen - strange bed (futon), cold room (window was left open accidentally), and two cats who were rather interested in the strange human in "their" room, and who kept bothering me all night long. On the way home, I forgot a bag at my friend's place, I very nearly ran over a curb, and almost left my wallet behind at the 7-11 when I went in to grab a diet coke so I'd be caffeinated and hopefully alert for the drive home. :p
Still, it was a crazy weekend but there was a lot of fun as well. Six good things from the weekend:
1/ Good walking weather - sunny and cool, but not too bright and not too stiff a breeze. Long sleeves or a light jacket was all that was required, and I did end up doing a lot of walking.
2/ Lunch with a friend. Met up at the subway station and went for lunch, and talked, and just hung out. Usually don't get much one on one time with this particular friend, so that was really nice.
3/ Sleeping overnight in Toronto meant that I only had to deal with the Gardiner closure traffic madness once, instead of multiple times, over the weekend. That alone was worth it.
4/ Friendly kitties! They may have been a bit pestery when I was trying to sleep, but they were friendly and purred and (along with my good friends who let me stay over) helped me feel at home. I missed my boys less because they were there.
5/ Afternoon game yesterday meant that, despite having to turn around and other various delays, I was home by 9:30, and in bed at a reasonable hour. Normally after a Sunday game in Toronto I'm home at 1 am. So this was good!
6/ Early Sunday morning, up before anyone else in the house I was staying at. I found the tea fixings and made myself a good cup of tea, grabbed a book, and spent a good half hour sitting on the porch reading, the cool late summer sun coming down, squirrels busy with nuts, climbing trees, digging in the flower beds, watching people walk their dogs, and basically just having a really good morning.
