Heart Rate Monitor

Sunday, September 16, 2012

So, I finally bought a heart rate monitor (especially since the one I had was broken and unfixable. It is 15 years old!!) Monday, I left the heart rate monitor at home. That doesn't help. But, I did run 5 miles in the heat (I started at 5:00pm when I took DD to tennis). On the way back, it was 3/4 of uphill. Now, I'm not a hill lover, but, with this new mind set, I just did it. Wasn't out of breath or feeling like I couldn't go on. On Tuesday, I took a spin class and remembered the HRM. However, didn't really now how to use it, so it didn't work. I went home and read the instructions on line and figured it all out. Yesterday, DH and I went running. Now, I'm supposed to be between 114 - 149. We started running and bam! heart rate is up to 163. DH said that to do this properly I should..... Well, I didn't want to do ..... I'm a runner, not a runner/walker. but, he said to give it time and I'll be running within my range for a long distance at the pace I want. So, in short, once my heart rate went above 150, I would start walking. The good thing is it came down to 137 really fast and I was able to run again. I ended up doing 6 miles. I basically ran 13 min miles. Hoping to change that really fast. I run again tomorrow, so we shall see!!

Today, I went on a nice 90 min hike with my buddies and then, met my brother for coffee. Haven't seen each other in awhile and needed to hash some things out. We were there for 2 hours. It was a good get together. Came home to find a new car in the garage! I'll have to take a picture and post it tomorrow. Oh, yeah, it wasn't for me! DH couldn't handle the stick shift anymore, so got an automatic: spyder boxster. Nice!!

Tonight, I made a nice dinner in honor of the Jewish New Year. Tomorrow, my cousin and I will go to Temple. Not sure what else is on the plate, but we'll figure out something. So, to all my Jewish sparkers out there: L'Shana Tova. Have a happy and sweet New Year!!

Congrats on taking the time to figure out your new heart monitor. Mine is in the drawer and it is not doing me any good there. Lol! I had surgery over the summer and I had to rest for 6 weeks. It was a rough start in the beginning but now I am starting to adjust to my runs again. Probably would help if I pull out my heart rate monitor too.

Wishing you a Happy New Year.
