Tips for making healthy eating easier

Friday, September 14, 2012

How many of you reach for the wrong foods when you're in a hurry, just because it's easily accessible? I know I do, and I'm not nearly as busy as most people (just lazy!).

I've found a couple of ways that even a lazy person can make better food choices throughout the day. Cutting up veggies, making individual hamburger patties, a quick oatmeal breakfast ... what other ideas can you come up with?

I too freeze extras when I cook. I also love my Food Saver machine I got last year. Food tastes just as fresh as the first time I cooked it! Or I can buy in bulk and freeze in individual packages that thaw quickly. Planning is the key!!

I'm as lazy as anyone, but when I do cook, I make big quantities and then freeze extras in individual containers. When I do burgers on the bbq, I'll do up about 12-15 of them at a time, however many I can get on the bbq. Or... being even lazier, I'll buy the Angus burgers already made at Costco. They're really good. I make crock pots full of soups and make casseroles to have in the freezer... I buy rotisserie chicken (usually at Costco) and divide it up into portions. No excuse for me not to eat well.

I also keep frozen ready to stir fry or steam veggies and raw veggies in the frig too...... I only have to cook for myself, so it is pretty easy.

It's all in the planning, isn't it! There are only two of us now so when I fix meals with more servings I freeze the extra servings and that helps us stay on track with our foods and cuts the cooking time for me. emoticon
