I went to the dentist the other day for my 6 month cleaning - yes, every 4 to 6 months I have my teeth cleaned. Although I brush and floss and rinse religiously, my teeth need to be scrapped and prodded and polished that often. I have a mouth full of crowns, caps and bridges. There is not a "bare" tooth in my head. Big bucks in my mouth already, certainly 30 to 40K.
After X-rays and an exam by the dentist, they have a treatment plan to take care of some cavities and , of course replace the bridge and two crowns that said cavities are under. For only a little more than $6000.
I have thought long and hard about this and prayed for guidance and have come to the conclusion that I am not going back down that road again. I will do all the right things to keep my teeth as long as possible without replacing these crowns and that bridge, because I know in my heart it is only the beginning of another big, big bunch of money and there is no guarantee that I won't have to have dentures eventually anyway.
I remember when my aunt made that decision and when the time came to get her dentures she said it broke her heart every time they pulled a tooth and she heard that expensive crown hit the porcelain bowl.
Sometimes I really feel my age!
